In the 1960s, my life was transformed by the spiritual teachings that had come to America from India. By opening my mind to universal principles, they expanded my range of awareness and concern to universal levels. Millions of others have had similar experiences over the course of more than 200 years. This presentation will describe how the philosophical precepts of Vedanta and the practical methodologies of Yoga—which transcend sectarianism and the religion-secular divide—have worked hand in hand to globalize both individual minds and, increasingly, the collective consciousness. We will describe the central features of this transmission and ways that people of all faiths—or no faith—can best utilize them to address the pressing issues of our time.
